Hi new mumma's and families its so lovely to have you here. I am Laura, an experienced, compassionate Independent midwife, offering you personalised, holistic care to support a positive pregnancy, labour & birth and postnatal journey.
Congratulations on your pregnancy 🩶
The road ahead can feel daunting, but I am here to walk beside you.
I first walked into the Maternity world in 2017, starting as a volunteer and progressing to a Maternity Support Worker, being able to support a family prior to birth and in those first few days after having their baby, was a calling to me.
I had known for a long time that I wanted to be a Midwife, but life took a different path, so I didn’t get there till a little later. In commencing my midwifery training and qualifying, I felt passionate and ready to become an Independent Midwife and voice for women and families just like you, within my care.
I intitally worked in the NHS after qualifying, it was a difficult time for all, due to Covid- 19 pressures. Mum's found it extra difficult to navigate their maternity care, due to restrictions with birthing partners. I empowered many women through that time, to have the strength to give birth with only me by their side, it really was a strange time and a lonely, isolating time for birthing women.
Shortly after qualifying I moved into a Continuity of Care team, providing care from booking, all the way through the antenatal stage, being present for the birth and then visiting postnatally. Continuity-of-Care has been proven time and time again to increase outcomes for Mothers and Babies and should be the minimum standard of care for all family's. I knew this way of working was exactly where I wanted to be! It aligned perfectly with my passion and drive to provide calm, nurturing, holistic maternity care to all women.
Unfortunately, Intervention rates continue to increase, my role as a hospital-based Midwife was becoming more of an 'Obstetric Nurse' role and more and more women were reporting feeling a lack of control or having little say in their own birth journey's, care decisions and experiences.
I knew I needed to try and make a difference, I wanted to ensure that all women feel heard, seen, understood and held, so I took the leap and left working in the NHS and went into the private field and now here I am, an Independent Midwife, giving back confidence and control to women and offering wraparound care choices, I feel in my happy place 🩶 advocating for you and your family, and giving you a leading voice in your care decisions and preferences. I strive to make sure you and your family feel heard, acknowledged and feel involved in all aspects of your care.

Gentle Midwifery Norfolk was founded, firstly because I am based in the beautiful county of Norfolk and secondly because my vision involves a more gentle approach to pregnancy and birth care.
Previously, I have witnessed first hand, how increased levels of stress, intervention and fear affects your oxytocin levels (the hormones of love and needed during labour to relax and calm you to help to reduce the length of your labour).
By offering gentle support and advocation for pregnancy and birth, I can ensure you take back choice and control, and by providing you with evidence-based guidelines together in a trusting relationship we can aim for a more gentle experience for you, your partner and ultimately your unborn baby.
I offer complete continuity-of-care throughout your journey, from antenatal to labour, birth, and postnatal support. My approach is family-led and completely personalised, with appointments held in the comfort of your own home, at a time to suit you and your personal circumstances.
My role is to guide, support, and nurture you, always providing evidence-based information so that you feel empowered to make the decisions that are right for you and your family. It is not my job to tell you what to choose, but to offer all the advice, guidance and options and empower you to feel confident to make these decisions.
Whether you’re planning a home birth or hospital birth, I will be there to help you feel confident, calm, and prepared for your birth and beyond.
My care takes a holistic approach, incorporating techniques such as hypnobirthing, relaxation, massage, water birth, aromatherapy and active birthing. I can also liaise with other professionals where needed. I offer support alongside your NHS care or you may choose to receive all your care independently from me.
I take great pride in helping you create a peaceful and nurturing birth environment, so you can feel safe, supported, and truly held throughout your birthing experience.
I am NMC registered, RCN registered, and DBS checked. I am insured through Zest Midwives and complete regular annual safeguarding and emergency training, always ensuring your safety and peace of mind at all times. I am registered with ICO meaning that your data is always safe and protected with me.
My specialist areas are Antenatal Education and Feeding support, I’ll be there to guide and encourage you, helping you to feel confident and supported as you move into parenthood.

I do also offer a range of additional care options, designed to gently support you at all different stages of your journey. You can explore these in more detail on my Care Journey pages.
